My brothers girlfriend has asked me to take some pics of her, for her modelling portfolio.
Anyone got some pointers for me? I shoot cars, not people!

Hmmm sorry I have no experience in that type of shoot but I'm sure others will be able to help. Check out Emphoto's blog (http://emphotography.com.au/wordpress/) - I'm sure there will be some great pointers there.
You shoot cars?! I can ask you for pointers - my hubby made me shoot his car yonks ago - I will have to dig out a couple of them and get your help - as he is always wanting pics of his "other woman".....

No shadows are good shadows on the face. short depth of focus can separate your GF from the BG. Dont shoot between 12 and 3ish unless you want full sun. Overcast is your friend. Longer lenses are good for background compression.
There is a heap of little pointers people can give you.. Shoot what looks good to you and try and think outside the box..
Finally good luck!
