The first of what will no doubt be a few different threads. The Terracotta Warriors and Horses in Xian are simply amazing.
Thousands of warriors have have been recovered and restored for display, with thousands more still contained within the earth. No two are the same, and the detail in their clothing and hair etc has to be seen to be believed. We were very fortunate to be there when there was only a small crowd, but that didn't stop me getting in trouble for using my tripod which had to be put away.
These shots were taken with the 5D11 and 100-400mm.

Thanks for dropping by Ross/ Cher.
Certainly was amazing, my main regret is I didn't get a picture that really shows the size of it all. I got so caught up in the little details that I forgot about the "big picture".

Astonishing.
Apparently there are thought to be about 8000 in total as well as numerous chariots and horses.
Thanks for sharing these Mick, quite fascinating.

Thanks Mick. I have some pictures of the chariots that I will post for you to see. They are smaller in size and locked behind a glass cabinet but still awesome to see. I'll post some more when I get home tonight

Great shots. Amazing that each one is unique - now if they could work out how to stop the colour fading as soon as they're unearthed it would be great.

Thanks P plates. Agree, they would look so nice in full colour. Such a shame we can't slip back in time and have a look :)

Another couple that show what they look like prior to being restored, and one of the "Chariot and Horses" displays. The chariots were found separate form the warriors, and the one in the photo is actually a replica as the original is off traveling somewhere at the moment.

Meh, been there done that!! ;)
Great shots Mick. Never get tired of looking at these things.
Amazing detail, and the fact that they were all had made and individualised down to the finest detail.
Not to steal your thunder, but here is a shot showing the enormity of the place.

I never tire of looking at these kinds of images. To think that they were all handcarved, that just blows my mind.

Worth having a look next time you go, I saw a few at a museaum earlier in the day but nothing beats seeing them all together.

Hey Shane, nice of you to drop by :) I seem to remember you bringing your kids down to the snow was on your bucket list as well. There is still a bed for you here if you are keen (winter is just around the corner)

Thanks Mick for the kind offer. It won't be this year as the wife's family is having a reunion in Tasmania at Christmas.
Cheers

What a treat for an armchair traveller! I had no idea this area was so vast and I didn't know they faded. I have always enjoyed seeing these terracotta warrior images and thanks Mick for showing us these. Love the minute details and the ones as found.
