Ant and i have been trying to organise a quick trip up to Snobs Creek to get some shots of the falls.
After a a false start on Saturday, today was the day. We planned to meetup at the Beechworth Bakery in Healesville. A nice change in plans, meant Jo joined us.
We warmed up with a morning coffee, then headed off. Driving through the Black Spur on the way to Marysville, we were all wishing we could pull over and get some shots of the wonderful light filtering through the morning mist and Mountain Ash's, unfortunately, it is pretty impossible on that road :tears:
Our plan was to visit Steavenson Falls, then head to Snobs Creek. Unfortunately the road to Steavensons Falls was closed, so we made a B line to Snobs Creek.
Driving through Thornton, the mist was thick and etherial. I pulled the car over too see if Ant & Jo wanted to get some photos, luckily they were thinking the same thing. Out we trugged, trying to capture the elusive "Gum through Mist" shot..
Here is what i ended up with..
I focused on the reeds in the foreground trying to keep an air of mystery around the gum. I'm glad i did, in the photo i can see the farmhouse and power lines that i couldn't see standing there.

Gum # 2, we all stood there for about 15-20 minutes, taking various shots, and trying not to spook a group of horse riders who came past us.

Mini Ausph meet continues...
We spent a bit of time at the falls, i took a rope as i wanted to do a bit of gardening
Last time i visited the falls, there were a number of saplings growing where a tree limb had fallen. Both Ant and myself then clambered around getting wet from the spray to get some shots from new angles.
Falls....

We also went bush and walked along the river feeding the falls, beatuful moss covered boulders were strewn across the river.

I hope you all enjoyed the pics from our quick day trip.
I'm sure Ant and Jo will have LOTS more.
C&C welcome.

Thanks Steve for the great photos and descriptions.
I'm really partial to the first one, but they are all very evocative, (not sure about the thick, dark frames , but we are not here to discuss that)
Cheers

Hi Alan,
Thanks for the comments. I have been playing around with different frames for a while now, and still can't decide on what to do!
The main reason i add a black border is that it increases perceived contrast to the eye. Ideally we would be viewing all out images on totally dark screens, as with flickriver.

Looks like you guys had a great day out Steve. What more can you ask for; some nice fog and some nice thick moss on the rocks in the waterfall!:)
Looks like a very adventurous time you all had, some nice images, i love the fog ones, was it as cold as it looks????

And thanks for letting me play with your lens's ! Love that last long lens i used, The colour reproduction is wonderful!!
We had a great time! My shots will probably be going up tomorrow night..
The garden Cleanup was a good idea, but we missed one fern that appears in a heap of Jo's shots, blowing in that waterfall breeze.
BTW... Jo nailed a shot from the top of the waterfall Looking out over the valley. I want to post it, but she wants too! New member ALERT!

Look forward to the shots.
Fern..... We couldn't cleanup a fern!!! They are supposed to be there.
The last lens was a Pentacon 135mm f2.8 M42 mount. It renders colour beautifully.
The Zeiss should be tack sharp, with great colour... It just depends on how your MF skills are.
I think the problem i was having with your camera, was moving the camera when i pressed the shutter button, i need heaps more practice, can you lend it to me for a couple of months? I should have my technique sorted in that time frame. :happyyes:

Wonderful set! Love the fog shots, especially the first with the reeds.
The light streaming in from the left on the waterfall shot is something special and I can only imagine how difficult it must be to get the exposure correct under those circumstances. Superb image.
Again the light in the last is fantastic, wow.
Thanks for sharing these Steve, very inspiring.

Very nice shot's Steve.
Even though the road to Stevensons Falls is closed, you can still walk there. Bit of a hike though.
The fog ones are really good, but I prefer the one with the whole tree.
I've already commented on the waterfall, but the moss one looks goo too. Lovely green colours.

Hi LC, thanks for the comments, it is a lovely spot, but i usually end up cursing the sun, yesterday it was kind to me.

WALK!!! :chin: Nice idea, but we didn't have time, i am also tipping Steavensons falls would still be decimated from the fires.
Thanks for the comments.
I like the fog shots - the composition of #1, with the branches of the tree filling in the negative space on the RHS, is nice. #2 is growing on me the more I look at it, but I almost wish I could see the outlines of the background trees a little more; I feel like it would add more to the mystery of the fog.

Steve i very love your fog picture. Looks great.
The waterfall looks great too. I had a lovely day. I was so happy to go outside to beautiful place to use my camera. Your side of Melbourne is more beautiful than here. I told ant, we need to go there every weekend.
