I'm mainly a sports photographer, that's no secret. But at the end of today's fixture I had a chance to play with a couple of in-camera settings on my new D300s.

I used a dulled down contrast and an exposure compensation of -1 stop. In post processing I used a bottom layer with levels work and a top layer of a sepia tone image set on "soft light".

The sun was down over the enclosure and it made for some really nice lighting on the face of gun Port Macquarie Sharks second rower Joel Asher.

DETAILS-
D300s
ISO 800
F/5.3 @ 1/800th second
80-400mm lens @ 230mm

That's great, Matt!

Really like your use of the strong, black form and the full tonal range.

An image of that quality is worth the PP effort, huh!

Most definitely. It turned out better than I expected.

Love it Matt! I'm also glad you no longer put the watermark through the centre of the shot, you can see it and appreciate it but still know you can't use it. Great stuff.
