View Full Version : Spider (ID pls)
Seems like macro is the current flavour of the month.
I recently jumped on the bandwagon and purchased a 100L macro (KevinJ, Picture Perfect and Em too!!).
Anyway, i had a chance to bring it out for a quick field test today.
Its been a while since i shot macro and now i remember why i didnt get into it much before - its quite tricky!!
A spider i found, ID help appreciated :arms:

Hi,
Without seeing the top of the spider, I'd say it was a St Andrews Cross Spider (only a partial cross made here)
The first link below has a pic taken from the underside
Nice pic BTW :)
Cheers

Thx for the links, Alan.
From that it does appear to be a male St Andrews. It was about a 4mm size, much too small for a female.
I found plenty of small males, but didnt spot any females....i wonder why?

I think from my basic entomology days, the male is smaller (4-6mm), a dull brown in clour and no pattern on th abdomen. The female is the one that builds the web. Looking at your image it is a bit hard to say one way or the other...nice image, though.
