View Full Version : Dusky Moorhen
I went to the park for lunch today with my wife and this little fellow was wondering around in the lake, so I just had to grab the camera and snap some off hahaha
Shot in manual mode, Tv 1/250, Av 5.6 ISO 100 500mm focal length and white balance set to cloudy.

That`s a big image, thought you`d chopped his tail off when it first opened,LOLLOL.A nice catch,it`s a little bright on my screen and it looks a touch oversharpened, apart from that a good shot, take them when you can,the parks always good, they get used to people.

Thanks Kevin............................oops, that’s the trouble with having a 24” screen haha Yes, I did hit the sharpen pretty hard in LR, maybe I should have backed off a bit.

Thanks Tim - Be afraid, very afraid hahaha
Ditto on the detail, very nice image Lloyd.
Thanks Michael. Believe it or not it only takes up a little over half my screen. That’s the problem with big screens, you tend to reduce the size and they look too small, so you go back and reduce it less and forget it will be too big for everybody else’s screens (including my own laptop). The other problem is in LR if I sharpen too much on this screen it still looks OK, because it has such a high pixel rate it still looks lovely and smooth. Oh well, not to worry, off into the city with my son tonight to snap a few off.

Like this one Lloyd. The small ripples in front of the DM really give this a tranquil look.

No nits from me at all....lovely quality of light, I personally don't find it over sharpened at all, and love the extra fine feather detail showing on the flanks, wonderful eye colour and clarity and the satin smooth blue water is the icing on the cake.........one of your best bird shots to date Lloyd I reckon....especially good considering the relatively slow shutter speed for the focal length.
Lovely detail in all aspects of the image, i like it a lot .. :)

OH YEH, you sure are Kevin. 640x480 size looks really small I can tell you!!

Thanks LC, yes, he was quite happily just tootling around being quite lazy.

Thanks Colin. Yes, I’d have to agree with you, I was pretty happy with it. I’m still too hit and miss with my Sigma lens. You should see some of the clangers haha. I really need to get out more to practice but I find myself being drawn to landscape at the moment. The kids said they are going to buy me a monopod for father’s day so that should make me a bit steadier than hand held. It is quite hard to steady it to get the focus point in the right spot, which is my main worry. I have heaps of shots with the body in focus and the head and eye blurry.
Lovely detail in all aspects of the image, i like it a lot .. :)
Thanks Julie, I appreciate your comments. Thanks for looking.

Im all for the larger size too!!! keep them this way pls.
Quality image without any flaws :)
I like the docile character of DMs, a lovely pond bird to have around.
