So this is supposed to be a D40/D3000 replacement. Specs look pretty good, 14mp and cls support.

Still no word on the D90 replacement though. Got money burning a whole In my pocket at the moment....waiting

I read that the next nikon announcement is sept15....they "reckon" the d90 replacement will be announced then...fingers crossed.

Anyone waiting too?

Like that abba song. MONEY MONEY MONEY !

I read reviews on the d300 and I don't think the extra features get me much that I need. Plus it's bigger...which I don't like.

I like the d80 and 90...i really just want better iso performance. I think the d90 replacement will have better iso handling than the d300 too if I believe the rumours.

I am tempted though....

Funny you say that. I grab my 40d and it feels too small.. I recon the camera sizes grow on you..

Cookster, the D90 would be the way to go for you....the larger screen, video, and CMOS sensor offer better ISO handling and dynamic range :)
Ive seen them go used for around $750 these nowadays with the imminent new model coming. Tempted? lol

Myself, i'ld love a D3s, wtg Timmo!!

Then D300 is no longer made, the D300s is it's replacement and the difference between the two is minimal...except video mode.
The size difference between D300, D300s and D90 is minimal ?
The D300 and D300s have very good ISO performance, quite remarkable in that respect and the D90 has the same CMOS sensor as the D300 {s} which makes it a great body at a much lesser price.

So....the replacement for the current D90 should theoretically be a very good unit as well. In my opinion all camera bodies have more features that 99.9% of people will ever use, or as I like to put it......

" new cameras don't necessarily capture good pictures, but they capture a good amount of people " lol lol

Ok. Good chance it's coming in the next month
This is from a nikon press conference in denmark

10:08 [Comment from Soren Reinke:]
When will the release a camera like the D300/D700 class, that can record Full HD video?

@ Soren: I think we will see at least one more launch before Photokina. But the question is whether it is a new D300 or D700. I doubt it. I think the D90 stands for replacement within.

And more rumours

A lot of readers are still asking me about the Nikon D90*replacement and the P7000 announcements. I will just repeat some of the old information I already published online: the D90*replacement*(not sure about the exact name yet) will be announced*on/around September 15th together with a new Nikkor 200mm f/2 lens. I already*reported*some basic specs a month ago:

Magnesium-alloy body
16MP sensor
1080 HD video
Somewhere between 6-8 fps
Improved ISO range: 100-25600*
39 AF points
Price: $1199 for body only
