Dylan and I have finalised our return trip to Iceland for August this year and being such predictable creatures as humans are, I went back to some images to have a look through again and remind myself how spectacular the country is.

When we went last year it was in May, so the landscapes looked brown and desolate (dead grass and all that from being under the snow). We're hoping to get a very different set of images this time round - perhaps a little more greenery!

This shot of Hvitserkur is one of my favourites. It is one of 5 rock formations in Iceland that has "holes" through it. We almost didn't know about this rock until we looked on the information board at the hostel we were staying at. The road leading to it was muddy and bumpy but it was worth it.

Hi Marianne,

What a beautiful picture you have captured well :) l haven't seen this place before anywhere and l love it.
hahaha the Rock looks like a donkey gracing .. with the head, mouth and big ears. :) lol
Lovely composition and the touch of colour as well.
Just one thing if l had to point something ... to me, it kinda looks the picture is leading to the right, just a tiny bit? Either way, great shot!

Thanks for sharing

ohh p.s. can you please explain how you created the Frame around the picture in Photoshop? as that great! :)

Cheers

What a fantastic shot. Certainly something different from Iceland.
Have mates that have been in summer and their pics look awesome. Loads of greenery, loads of sunshine. Only problem is that your chances are minimal on catching the northern lights, although I'm sure you guys have plenty of it already from your previous trip ;)

Agree with pictureperfect that it's seem to be leading to the right but only because he pointed that out. Heh.

ps - Hope you have travel insurance and that Katla doesn't explode. I'm gonna leave Iceland till next year and hope for the best.

Thanks everyone for the comments!

Hmm, I shall have to check my horizon - is that what you mean, PP and Pixel, by leading to the right? We didn't catch any northern lights last time :( but we're hoping, hoping that we'll get lucky this time round.

And yes, I think we will be looking carefully at our travel insurance for sure!

The border is a 4-step process; I don't know if there is another (easier) way to do it but this is my method:

1. Go to Image -> Canvas Size: here you can assign a number in whatever measurement you like (pixel, cm, inch, percentage) in both the width and height section, and pick your border colour. I have the "Relative" box selected and all Anchor points displayed.

2. Repeat above but make the border black and the height/width 2 pixels.

3. Repeat Step 1.

4. Go to Image -> Canvas Size for the last time, and this time assign a number and measurement for the height only, and click the anchor points so that the arrows point mostly downwards (i.e. not spread out in all directions, and not pointing upwards).

Voila! You should have your border. I then use the text button to enter the text and reposition. When it's perfected, make it an action!

Not the horizon. For some reason I find my eyes concentrating more on the right hand side of the image. Maybe it's cause it's really busy.

No northern lights? uh-oh....summer's not the best time. Spring and autumn is. U should check out the one's in Norway one day as well. Apparently it's the best place to view it. I'm still envious though. ;)

You're welcome, Robert!

Oohh, I understand. I did sort of intend for it to be heading in that direction, but yes I guess there is a bit of negative space in the ULHC. I was hoping the clouds would add enough interest! Oh well, better go back to the location and see if I can improve it. ;)
