Well home alone today with a new brolly set up... What was I to do but try some mugshots of myself.
I'm not a handsome man so this is the only one I am willing to share hahaha
The rest will probably only be seen by the Mrs.:p
HDR from a single RAW, blending 3 exposures to get the details of my horrible skin.
I had the light all over the place but from memory this one was at camera left, just above my head. 1/8 power
I tried smiling... But it just wasn't working so I went for a darker image
Crits/Comments are very appreciated

Well, you're better looking than me :p
Flash is to camera left and slightly higher than your head. If you can get your hands on a lump of styrofoam or an old coreflute sign you could us it on the RHS to reflect some light back on to that side of your face. It's a great cheap way of getting even light with one flash.
A good shot nonetheless.

just curious, how u set up to focus, the eyes look exceptionally sharp so the focus is spot on. Did u pre manually focus the zone, then set self timer. ANyway the pic look great,

Cheers Andrew. I did want half my face dark to add a more dramatic look. But I will def want something to reflect for other portraits. Cheers for the tips.

I was using a remote shutter cable with autofocus ;)

Good start mate. I would love to see your efforts with the flash above you 45% down. As Andrew has said, chuck a piece of white paper on your lap.. it will reduce those shadows a little bit.. yo will have a nice evil look..

I reckon the camera needs to be a little lower.
Agree with what the others have said.
Ugly? Hey , I resemble that remark :p
