Hi all,

Hope i put this in the correct area :)
If not I'm sure one of the top mods has it all sorted.

I'm trying to finish up my last wedding with a slideshow in DVD format so they can enjoy it on their TV. I would also like them to be able to access their Hi Res images on the same DVD on their computer.

I have made the slideshow in LR. Exported to both a 720p and 1080p .mp4

Every time I have converted it with Nero to DVD I lose all the HD goodness :help:

Can anyone help? Or am I going about this the wrong way? Can you suggest an alternative?

This is the slideshow if your interested. Pass is tictac123

Does your version of Nero support HD? You may simply need an upgrade.

Even if it does support HD you are converting to dvd. DVD resolution is 720x576 resolution.. You wont get HD goodness on DVD..

You will have to burn to bluray to get your HD goodness

AHhhhh I think you've hit the nail on the head Simon.

What a bummer.

Looks like I will have to do a slideshow using Nero seeing as tho I cannot get the nice LR one on a disc to be viewed as a DVD. How disappoint :(

Looks like I'm back to the drawing board tonight. Le Sigh. At least the clients have been great with my learning curve lol

Yep had same problem - I was making a slideshow DVD for work, I made it in Photostory in the end and selected the custom profile: 1024 x 768 from memory it was the best I could do. It still came out softer than I had hoped but it wasn't too bad. (To be honest I really wasn't sure whether changing the settings helped because in the final save process I think your only option is Pal 768 x 576 = no goodness!! Hope this helps

haha nice!

Sadly I don't have a bajillion pics to fill up an hours worth of slideshow.

Pretty much what u see in the vid above is most of the pics.

I'm currently runnin a slideshow thru Nero... Won't look as nice :(
So I'll have that as the DVD for a regular dvd player, then I'll throw the HD .mp4 on the disc with the hi res images. I think that'll make them happy. man I cannot wait to see their reaction to the slideshow with their wedding music. I EXCITE!

I think you've done about the only way you can. To give them everything you want to you have to do it in parts (bummer).

As for the slideshow - it's a ripper. You got some great shots for them!! Looking back at my wedding shots, I wish you'd been photoing then. . . .

Cheers Craig. Such a lovely compliment :)

I ended up doing a DVD compatible slideshow as well as providing the HD one in MP4 on the same disc as their images.

The best program I've seen for this purpose is ProShow Gold (http://www.photodex.com/products/proshow/gold). Supports a wide range of media formats, which makes it great for importing pics, vids and music into projects. Supports Blu Ray output and full HD MP4, among other output formats. Lets you overlay music, effects, captions, etc, along with basic photography tools such as cropping, etc. Very easy to use and learn. A bunch of seniors recommended it to me. I scoffed at first (what do a bunch of geriatrics know about computers?), but then I tried it...

As for losing quality when you convert to DVD format, DVD is only Standard Definition (SD), as opposed to High Definition (HD). To get HD, you need to either rip it to an HD format such as WMV, MP4 or DivX (DivX is a type of AVI format) and burn that to the DVD as a Data project (not as a DVD Video). The catch is that not all DVD players will support all formats, so it's a case of hit-or-miss. You'd be hard pressed to find one that supports MP4. Some support WMV and many support DivX - even then many players are selective about resolutions or codecs (there's more than one type of WMV and AVI). The easiest way around this is to get them to play the video on their PC. Alternatively, you could get yourself a Blu-Ray burner (about $110) and burn the videos as Blu-Ray format in all their Full HD glory. Bear in mind that the Blu-Ray discs are still comaparatively expensive though. ;)
