I was just wondering if this idea has any merit?
I bought a couple of photography books over the net a couple of weeks ago, i had to base my buying decision on the blurb at amazon, maybe they will be good, maybe not...
The last couple of books i bought was after reading a thread in a forum, someone talked about "Joe McNally" he sounded interesting so i made an educated decision, they are great.
Should we start a sticky thread where we can all recommend great books to each other?

This is a very good idea, Steve.
I too spend a bit of time reading - and i enjoy photography books, but reviews are often limited and biassed.. so i am cautious of forking out large $$.

Good idea. My 2 favourite books are from Joe McNally. If you're a strobost you'll love The Hotshoe DIaries. Otherwise The moment it clicks is great for any photographer

Good idea Steve. I had the Hotshoe Diaries but found it too Nikon orientated so got THIS (http://www.fishpond.com.au/Books/Arts_Photography/Photography/Techniques/Darkroom/9781933952444/?cf=3&rid=902172879&i=1&keywords=mastering+canon+eos+flash+photography) one the other day, haven't really had a chance to get right into it yet , but just browsing i think it will be a good read too.
It has only just been released, i had it on order for ages.

I read a LOT of photography books, so are you sure that you want to open this can of worms? ;-)
I am currently re-reading one of my fav books ever Light Science & Magic: An Introduction to Photographic Lighting
It is a simple yet effective book that I find super-useful. The first chapter talks about the basics of how you can LEARN to light... the second is all about what light is, and how it actually works... and the third is all about the Family of Angles. After that, the entire rest of the book covers 'how-to' for every type of surface you can think of, and every type of object that you will come up against.... all with full sample images and lighting diagrams so you can recreate the sample.
Best. Book. Ever.

Good choice! I don't know that title specifically, but all of the Rocky Nook (publisher) books I have a great.

My favourite (and only so far) photographic book is Understanding Exposure by Bryan F Peterson.

I tend to be more into photography magazines and have quite a few but I have some Scott Kelby books on digital photography and a few others my family have given to me over the past couple of years.
