Today I caught up with K1W1 and another enthusiast up in the Sherbrooke Forest. This place is amazing, and with all of the rain the fungi is quite abundant.

K1W1 has posted a magnificent image here (http://www.ausph.com/showthread.php/9945-The-macro-shooter) which shows the size of the trees in the forest.

I'm a little disappointed with my effort today mainly due to the shallow DOF. Now on my to buy list is a shutter release. Another thing of note was there was little need for a flash today, so the ring flash I have in transit may not get too much usage, but we'll wait and see.

This is what the fungi was like on the trees

And here are a few of my results...

And this one for K1W1, here is my starburst effort...

I hope that you realise you have just cost me a macro lens!
It's your turn for lunch next I'll either be poor or divorced or both. :)

Are you referring to all of the photos or just a couple?

These all look pretty good, you found some interesting things to photograph, I like the 4th one the best :)

Thank you Tania for the kind words.

I believe we all enjoyed ourselves today (I know I did) as the hours just seemed to fly by. I'd like to revisit trying to capture more fungi once I have my cable release and ring flash.

Thank you DPR, I appreciate the feedback.

I'd like to attempt to capture more fungi at some stage in the near future. Hopefully I can get a few different varieties next time as well.

And maybe a few less leeches. I now know why I don't do a lot of macro. :)

If you have some comments (good or bad) go for it? I have a glass of milk on my desk to cry into LOL

I only put them in this section as it was a first practice after 30+ years since photographing fungi. I'm not overly impressed with the results particularly DOF, which in itself restricts cropping etc, as there is very little in focus. Next effort I'll shoot aperture priority and utilise the tripod and flash to hopefully improve of what I've managed with this round. The flash will need to be quite dampened and probably a stop or two down to ensure it doesn't wash out the translucent parts.
