  • Curlew Sandpipers

I hope I have identified these birds correctly.. because I don't know how to change the topic heading. :-) I have been corrected, these are great knots.
    Lovely light yesterday.

Lovely light, and lovely pics Jo. That 2nd one grabs my attention, the 3rd is good too, oh, and I don't mind 1 & 4 as well....
    Cheers, Brad.

Beautiful photos Jo. You're correct with the names so not an issue. #3 for me, just watching for movement so it can swoop.

Thank you Isac, I like the birds doing bird stuff too, seems to be a lot of talk about them needing to look the camera in the eye, so to speak.

I do prefer the birds to be doing there own thing in their natural habitat too Jo.

My bird id skills leave a lot to be desired Jo - can't help you there

#2 is the real standout for me. I love the low pov, nice use of dof and the wind ruffled feathers - not sure you need the bird on the right? (if you follow the accepted rules 3 or 5 are better numbers)

Another photo that could lead to a discussion about cropping options.

Impressed with what you are capturing with that lens/camera combination

B/G birds in #1 dominate the image a bit too much for me - maybe a very tight crop on the subjects might be worth a try?

#4 Birds flying away from the photographer must be one of the most frustrating things we have to put up with

Mmm. odds... yes... rules rules rules. I am thinking that two blurry birds (aka blurds) are worth one in focus. Hence the balance is achieved. Ok.. maybe I'm reaching a little.

White birds photobombing are quite an issue and what's more this silver gull is a headless white blurd .

      Thank you for the CC

I took this down and decided that I like it. The sunlight in it's bill, the softness, the cuteness.

Good one Phoenix. No critique needed here. If it was my shot, I'd lose the feather on it's back and the darker part in the water at it's back end. BUT it's not - so I won't. Lovely subdued colours and very good detail with excellent framing. The sun in the bill is only a small part but very special.

They do like like Knots, I think the Sandpipers have slightly downwards curved bills.

Beautiful shots Jo. I like 2 and 3 best. I agree with Alan on the background birds in #1.
