powerful owl juvenile

is about the time that this seaons powerful owl chicks are around. despite being white at this stage, still not overly easy to find them.
the wash on the ground gave this one away and its parents too..

d4 200-500 f5.6 @500mm 1/640 f5.6 iso 1600 almost directly into the light. full frame in landscape but cropped to landscape.

Majestic bird even when they're young.

I haven't been fortunate enough to spot one where I could photograph it. One flew across in front of the car last week (at night) coming home from the airport. I considered myself lucky just to see that.

thanks folks, they mostly just sit and watch the world go by. they know us earth walkers cant get up there. seem to be quite a lot of PO along the creeks around here. I monitor some nests too over winter. the main one had some dramas this year where a large tree came down right next to the nest tree. seems they came back and bred after the cockatoos finished with the hollow.
very late for them but super glad the did breed after the drama.
