Nice shot Kathie. Agree with the others taht he would look better a little to the right, and also maybe a tad higher. In answer to the above question about focus, with a shot like this I would be using single shot focus and shooting. Press the shutter half way to lock the focus and then move the camera for the composition you're looking for. It's a quick and easy way to do it, but maybe someone else has a better/ easier way. (sorry if i'm singing to the choir, i'm sure you probably already know that).
Another beautiful shot!! I would have turned the camera to portrait, and captured more length to show the tree a bit more, and also moved the camera to the wing side of the bird to give more room. I like the moss on the tree, and how it softens the colouring. Very nice!
