  • Craigs Hut

So technically not 'city' ... posted here for the 'architecture' setting.
Had a fantastic weekend down at Mansfield, and surrounds, with some wonderful friends .... finally got to visit the famous hut.

Wow - great job in rebuilding it.

I had to look it up...

"Craig's Hut, a replica cattlemen's hut, is situated on Mt Stirling, approximately 51 kilometres from Mansfield. Originally constructed for The Man from Snowy River film in 1981–82, Craig's Hut was burnt down by bushfires in 2006. It was completely rebuilt and reopened to the public in January 2008. The last 1.2 kilometres is only accessible by 4WD or via the walking track from the Day Visitor Area."

      Thanks Alan
It is quite 'beautiful' for a hut .... surprised you had to look it up.

Nice to see a different perspective of this one Barb. I've seen millions of photos of the fence line leading into the hut looking out over the mountains. Well done of working beyond the norm.

Thanks Todd .... we weren't going to be there at sunrise or sunset so had to make do with middle of the day. Also had to wait for the tons of people to 'get out of my picture' ... very popular place. We were there on a Saturday .... would hate to be there on a public holiday or any other holiday time.

You have captured the textural elements in this interesting hut very well and included some nice sense of context with the setting.

Haven't been there, not done that.

I had no idea it was going to be quite so 'textural' .... unlike most huts we have seen in the high country.

Here are some extra shots from the vicinity ...

This group of riders came in while we were having lunch .... they took photos with their cameras or phones .... after 10 mins they left, without (most of them) dismounting.

    Leaving after a quick visit

Rusty (9wks) came along for the ride

We drove (4WD) around a lot of this area ... including Tomahawk Hut, Craigs Hut, The Staircase, Lake Cobbler, Little Cobbler Track (around Mt Cobbler), Bindaree Falls and Bindaree Hut .... returning via Sheepyard Flat. Left at 8am ... returned at 8pm. One of the best days I have ever had out in the bush.

    All photos taken with fz200.

The grain of the woods, the corrugations, the various folliage, the silky smooth sky all make up the textural aspects.. the details of the image picks up these well.
Your last four images aren't loading Barb.
