  • Show an image in an OPEN BOOK

Alan, I hope you can use the Book action (and other members too) FREE!
I've completed the Open Book action and you can download it from my web site below. Just a few important things:
To load the action into PS, extract the files from the ZIP file and Double Click on the "Isac Images BOOKS.ATN" file. This will auto lad into PS.
If you want to load an action manually, it's as easy as ABC.

Run PS and open the "Isac Images - OPEN BOOK TEMPLATE.PSD" file. When it's open you will see the instructions. SIMPLEZ!
If you have any dramas, let me know and I can advise where you went wrong, in front of all other members - C'mon, you know I wouldn't do that!

Thanks. That works. You're used the text placement really well

Looks like an interesting 'Action' too

Not an action Alan. It's a PS template that I did a while back modeled on one I saw on the net. You just put your photo in behind it and play with warp to get it right. A tutorial would probably explain it better. I could then make the tutorial and template available to download from my web site. I could do that if you want me to.

                  hmm

The other Actions work but not the Book Action for me

I tried 'selecting' or 'not selecting' the image on which to run it, but still kept getting this..

Clicking through manually seemed to produce a frame?

                  I'm doing something wrong, sorry

Maybe move this Action discussion to a new thread?

I think I see the problem. You have to open the provided file "Isac Images - OPEN BOOK TEMPLATE.PSD" first then drag YOUR photo into the template, rename it to "Photo", rasterize it then drag it down to above the Background layer. Then follow the guide within the template to resize YOUR photo to fit just outside the border of the BLUE frame.

                      Thanks Greg,

Maybe move this tech talk to another place? It's not working for me yet - maybe tomorrow . I am a bit slow, sorry.

Appreciate you taking the time though - I hope someone else has worked it out.

                      Cheers

When I figure out how to move posts to another topic, I will do it - I actually thought about this last night, so I'll give it a go today.
I think I need to do a step by step tutorial on "Create an Open Book", which I will post in the new topic. I'm going to put it in Projects and hopefully get other members to post up their results. Cheers.

Here are the full instructions. I have also put them into the "Isac Images OPEN BOOK Action.zip" file in PDF format, available on my website.

Show an image in an OPEN BOOK … an Action and Template by Isac Images

Before you start, you will need to download the Action/Template "Isac Images OPEN BOOK Action.zip" from www.isacimages.com.au.

There are 2 files in the ZIP file:
                        1: Isac Images - OPEN BOOK TEMPLATE.psd
                        2: Isac Images BOOKS.atn

After you have extracted and saved the 2 files into a folder on your hard drive, you need to load the "Isac Images BOOKS.atn" action file into photoshop. If Photoshop is not running, double click on the action file. This will start Photoshop and automatically place it into your actions palette.

If Photoshop is already running, you can load the action manually.

If the Action Palette is not visible, press ALT+F9 to open it.

Now that you have Photoshop running, open the "Isac Images - OPEN BOOK TEMPLATE.psd" file. This will display the instructions for you to follow from this point forward. You can read those or follow on in this file, which is more detailed.

You should see 6 layers in the layer palette. Their names and status are as follows:
                        1. ON -Blue Rectangle
                        2. ON -Instructions - "This book template ..."

                        3. OFF - LHS PAGES and SHADOWS
                        4. OFF - RHS PAGES and SHADOWS
                        5. OFF - Left & Right Pages
                        6. ON - Background (Locked)

Select the Background Layer - this is important.

Minimize Photoshop and use your file management program to locate your photo file that you want to show in the Book.
Left click, hold then DRAG your photo onto the Photoshop tab on the bottom task bar. This will display Photoshop showing the template file.
Now you can drag your cursor to the Photoshop workspace and release you mouse button.
You should now see your photo and it appears as a layer in the layers palette. It also has a diagonal cross on it. This indicates that it is a smart object.
You need to "Place" your photo as a new layer by pressing the ENTER key. Right click on your Photo Layer and click RASTERIZE LAYER.

You will then need to RENAME your photo. In the layers palette, Double Click on your photo's name and change it to "Photo" (case sensitive).
The reason for renaming your image is so the action can find the layer called "Photo".

You now need to RESIZE your "Photo" layer, by selecting the Move Tool and dragging the corners of your Photo to make it fit the “Blue Rectangle” frame.
It's OK to make it slightly larger, so it overlaps the frame slightly. (Holding the shift key while you drag the corners will retain the image proportions).
For a realistic look, drag the top or bottom (centre handles) to squash the photo slightly.
What shows in the “Blue Rectangle” frame, is what is used to create the book pages.

When you are happy with what you see in the “Blue Rectangle”, you are almost ready to create your book!

                        Before you do:
                        1. Turn OFF the top 4 layers
                        2. Turn ON the bottom 3 layers.
(This is done by clicking on the “eye” to the left of the layer).

Once that is done, you can run the action “Isac’s Open Book” which is inside the "Isac Images BOOKS" Action set.

Have fun and post your results.

Please download the latest version from the web site. I've tweaked a few things to make it better. It includes the instructions, PSD file and ATN file. Sorry for any inconvenience. Please use these newer files.
