  • Friday night football .... at least it's called 'football'

    G'day all

We're still in northern Qld at the moment - and on Friday night we were invited to go along to the local footy ground to see the 'spectacular' match between Richmond & Julia Creek

Upon getting there I found that it wasn't football - it was rugby, so I was less enthusiastic, but I went along with it anyway
The game was my first ever rugby match 'in-the-flesh' and by half time I was bored senseless, so went home at that stage

However - photographically it was quite a challenge
Under lights - ordinary zoom lens that as I zoom the max aperture drops from f3,5 to f5,6 ... ie- not an f2,8 constant aperture & my monopod

I have kept 4 images from the 400-odd that I shot ~ the wonders of continuous burst
    exif - all images ... Panny G2; 14-140 @ 140; 1/50s x f5,6; iso-3200

    A big challenge indeed.
Short of running onto the field and using your flash I am not sure how you could get newspaper sharp images here!
Looks like it was fun to watch the fellas on the field and you got some nice action-motion.

Haven't been there, not done that.

      G'day Jo

Thx for your kind comments ... bloody big flash needed indeed
One of the few times that I would have liked the Panny FZ200 with its constant aperture f2,8 zoom lens ~ but that's another story and bank account !!

You needed a whistle, not a flash. Stop 'em dead in their tracks for a sec then fire the shutter. Probably get you evicted from the ground but hey, it's only rugby, not proper football.

        (I jest folks I jest!)
