You have a lovely lake, no wonder you get the great water bird shots.
The square cropped photo #3 gives me an uncomfortable feeling that it is compressed.

    Regards

I am of the opinion that cropping the ducks out makes it more comfortable.
Better a full bottle in front of me
      than a full frontal lobotomy.

Cheers Keith. It's rather a special place, being right in the middle of an urban development. Not sure what you mean with your reference to the square crop.

Is that for me or Keith?

It agrees with Keith but would be an observation offered in response to the posting of that image!

By me saying that #3 looks compressed, the crop feels to me too narrow for the height.
If it was also cropped from above (taking the ducks out) to make a square image it would be more pleasing to view.

        Regards
        Keith

Thanks Keith, would you like to do the edit and show me what you mean? That would help.

I think what Alan is alluding to is that it has a similar feel to a cricket pitch as viewed when televised, i.e. appearing shorter that it actually is. Maybe the adult swans were further apart than they appear. Just my thoughts.

Isac, I think I will retract what I said, when I saved the image to my desktop where I could see it in it's entirety it looked okay.
When viewing as I scrolled down on the forum I could not see the full image, which led me to think that it was a bit narrow for the length.
I have learned something here, my apologies.

        Regards
        Keith

Cheers Keith. I learn something new every day (but it doesn't mean I remeber it). You had me stumped for a while and I thought I would have to revisit the idea of a square crop. Thanks mate.

It looks to be an excellent variety of birds for the apparent size of the lake. It's wonderful to have swans there.

Cheers Alan. It is a small lake but it's healthy and does attract a good variety of birds. Perfectly suited to a photographer!

That would also be a nice portrait crop.

I see your point and the crop is a good version. Plenty of different ways to crop it I guess. I'm saddened that the mother left her family, but it's a fact of life now with families splitting up.
