    This railway is a very old one - Cairns to Mareeba, then a junction up to Chillagoe or down to Forsyth and Mt Surprise -- all back in the gold rush days. These days it is a tourist route
    One interesting aspect is that the steel sheet sleepers are laid directly onto the soil (the same as the Gulflander in Normanton) meaning that floods can come and go without doing too much damage to the rail line

    G'day all

    Rails in the dirt - a small gauge railway tracks near the end of the line

    1)- the rails are laid onto steel sleepers which lie directly on the soil underneath

    exif- Panny FZ-2500; 1/200s x F4,5; EV+/- @ -1,0; ISO-125; lens at 10x zoom / 270mm FFequiv
