  • Urban Farming

I live in the SE suburbs about a 53 K drive from Melbourne CBD and there are still pockets of small farms that seem to be surviving. I don't know for how long though with the increasing rates and the encroachment of housing/business development. You'll pay in the region of $400,000 for a 600 Sq. Metre block, if you can find one that big.
Not a brilliant set of images, just a record of the landscape around me.

#1 And the factories just keep getting closer.

#2 I think that this market garden has reached the end of life. I rarely see any crops in here, and when I do they seem in pretty poor condition.

Thanks for the insight of your local area John. Sort of semi rural? I love the juuxtaposition used in #1 - perfectly illustrated.

Thanks for the feedback Isac. This area is about 15 - 20 minute walk from my place.

Block of land next to us 1/4 the size sold for 5 times what we paid 7 years ago.

That old chestnut "Greed" comes to mind Hans. It's alive and well in Ausgreedia. We bought our block in 2004 for $80k (640sqr/mtrs) and now in this same area they are $250k and 250 sqr/mtrs. Great to have a chat over the side fence with your neighbours.

    G'day John

#1 in its various forms ... housing mostly / factories / highways / whatever are always encroaching onto urban areas

Interesting images John. Several areas not far form me that used to have lots of small crops farms on rich red soil is now almost entirely housing. Sad to see but 'progress' marches on.
