  • Australian Carriage-Driving Championships

    G'day all

Over the Easter weekend, we came across the above event being conducted in a small village 100km or so north of Melbourne
Most of the events were for a single horse and rider, some were with two horses and others were four-in-hand
Here's a selection of images from the weekend events. (Cars on the oval are judges units)
The carriages are very modern affairs with 4-wheel disc brakes and swivelling front axles

Well, that is something different Phil. I wonder how difficult it is to be the passenger (in #1), or is that a judge? Nice soft light and good colour

He would be the groom and would be expected to leap off and hold the horses heads while they stood for the judge to inspect the turnout.

Certainly a peaceful scene of horse and carriage.

And an interesting trick of the light, or horses markings on the first, it looks as though the front leg is a double take.

But I suspect the horse has a white streak on its leg, but I am unsure...

Beautiful shots of a genteel sport Phil. I assume the first is of a pair, in which case the synchronisation is just about perfect.

        Hi Kelvin + Mark
Yep the two horses had a remarkable ability to match each others stepping in very close sync
Hmmmm - I didn't mention it in my earlier text -- I wondered whether anyone would pick it up, and you all did !

I just fired myself from cleaning my house.
I don't like my attitude and I caught myself drinking on the job.
