  • Little/Small Planet

I was browsing through some old posts and came across this post by Alan, the process intrigued me so much that I had to give it a try. There are plenty of tuts on the subject, I used this tut. The Sky Gradient section had me a tad confused, need help here.
I will definitely be doing more of these Little Planet images in the future.

The original panorama, S.A. - Qld border near Birdsville.

Coles Bay Little Planet. The original was not a 360 Deg. pano, so the effect is not very good.

I have done several of these in the past john and not having a 360° image, was not a problem. To fix the joining issue, I just:
    1. copied a section from the left, flipped it horizontally and placed it on the right hand side of the image. This makes both sides the same.
    2. Soft eraser tool to remove the sharp edge of the new layer and make it blend naturally. THIS METHOD ALWAYS REMOVES THE JOIN.
    3. Ctrl+Shift+Alt+E to merge all layers to a new layer. Now add a gradient mask to the sky using the colours from the image. I use a mask for the gradient to easily adjust it.
These are the layers before Flipping it Vertically and using the Polar filter.

Here's the final result with the Coles Bay image.

Wow, what a difference. Thanks for including the PS screenshot, I'll have a go at doing the same.
Did you download the original pano and make the changes to that? I also notice that you've made a slight change to the clouds.
Expect a phone call later this arvo (your time)

I did use your pano image and thanks for the call GJ, happy to help. That goes for any other members who need a hand.

Okay Isac, I'm following your little world tut. I have selected part of the left side, flipped it and copied it to a new layer. Do I fix up the seam now, or later?

You fix the seam now with a soft eraser brush so you remove it completely.

You removed the sky on the new layer and it has to stay. You can only remove the seam. All of the left side has to be the same as the right side, because the polar filter joins them together.

That looks like a bit of fun. Will try and see if I get a chance to have a go.

This is something else you can do to make it a 3D planet.

It's an online conversion site that makes a spinning global GIF file from a JPG file. I used it to create a revolving logo for a friends website. HERE. Take a look at his latest images of Manjimup Speedway. He got the wheel spin pretty nice on a lot of shots.

I have a 360 degree video camera thingy that does this effect with 4K video images. A little freaky I must say.
