  • Pelican tranquillity

Well I've been able to get out and take photos more often over the last twelve months or so, except for Covid lockdowns, so I've been getting back into bird photography. We've been pretty lucky in Queensland though, unless we wanted to go interstate.

Just another pelican, but I rather like the simplicity of the image..

Great to see you back Alan, and with a good image of one of our large feathered friends. They are definitely photogenic. I agree about the simplicity of the image and I like the minimalist look. Lovely light and detail, you're a real pro. Still with the D800?

Thanks Isaac, yes still using the D800 but I’ve replaced the Sigma 120-300 f/2.8 I was using with a Nikon 500 PF f/5.6. Couldn’t really afford it but it was a now or never opportunity. This image is the old lens though.

I don’t know about the pro bit. I reckon if you take enough shots, you get a few good ones.

You're modest as well Alan! You're probably right though, if you take plenty, you're bound to a couple of keepers.

    G'day mate

whatever lens you used is not an issue - you have created a really beaut symmetry with the bird and its reflection
    a 'well done' from me

The reflection is a major part of this composition. I find the relative ugliness of a pelican very attractive and have been known to photograph the same

Yes, the reflection and the angle of its beak, I think. I find them hard to resist.
Working...
