  • Abbott's Mill Songbirds

Morning hike through the woods at a nature preserve that is attached to an old 18th century mill. Songbirds where plentiful and loud until a hawk flew overhead and all of the birds went silent.

Good captures of these little Birds and they obviously know how to survive.

Thanks. I've seen a lot more hawks around recently, a couple in my back yard as well.

Nice work David. #1 and #2 are a little cluttered but the soft background gives good separation and shows the bird well in its environment. Beautiful colours in all.

Love the effect created by the soft focus and colour of the background.

What everyone else said David. What would you think about tighter crops? Might be worth a try to focus more on the birds.

Thanks! The crops are already pretty tight about (50% or so), so I wouldn't crop much more IMO. I also like including more of the environment for these guys.

Cheers David. If you're happy with those crops then that's all good. I actually don't mind a bit of the surroundings included as long as the subject is easily viewed and doesn't get absorbed by it all. #3 (to me) blends in a bit so I would probably decrease the colours in the background just a tad.

Hi David, this is what I meant about the background. I don't think it takes anything away from the photo and this is only my thoughts on it and I'm sure not all will agree.

Cheers David... and without changing the aesthetics of the image. Thanks for the reply.

good work on these. good details and enough background separation. all could be cropped closer if you were that way inclined
