  • Some birds from Myall Park Botanical Gardens

Myall Park Botanical Gardens has thousands of native plants growing in a natural bush setting, so it is quite unlike your typical botanical garden. It also has a well set-up bird hide with a pool in front and a few well-placed perches..

All with Nikon Z8, Nikon 500mm PF f/5.6 and 1.4x teleconverter.

Most are in shade so ISO is quite high. I kept the shutter speed up (probably longer than I should have) as the birds were constantly moving.

Always a welcome sight but I don't think they will make the "Best of Alan"
Better a full bottle in front of me
    than a full frontal lobotomy.

I’m just happy to get some different birds, even in poor light.

And many people would love to get them in their collection. Have you counted the different birds you have? Wouldn't be possible to get your best shot each time

I don't have a count Hans and it take a bit of time to do. Of course if I was a serious birder I would log each species as I got them. If i get a chance I'll see what I can work out.

Excellent shots Alan. Really like that blue eye on #3.
    Fujifilm X-T5, XF16-80 f/4, XF70-300 f/4-5.6, XF23 f/2, XF35 f/2, XF150-600 f/5.6-8, and a random assortment of 35mm film cameras.

Thanks David. I should try for a head shot of #3 as they have quite spectacular colouring.

Great series Alan. You always manage to get uncluttered backgrounds, which make the birds pop - not always easy to do in some environments, so well done for that. The light is never perfect so and as you know with your post work, it's always quick and easy to bring them up to an acceptable level - as I see here. Great work.

I just fired myself from cleaning my house.
I don't like my attitude and I caught myself drinking on the job.

Thanks Isac. the perches set up at the bird hide helped with the backgrounds, although the reeds around the pool posed a problem for some shots.
