While in the backyard just now looking for some birds to practice on, several Kites were hanging around looking for lunch. I managed this shot of a Black Kite. There were several Whistling Kits hanging around as well, but with just a 300mm lens, this was the cleanest photo I could get.

Never worry about the lens that you have ... it's a problem when it's at home and you're away
and the age-old thing about "us mob" is that whatever lens we have (long or wide) it's never quite right all the time
There's little wrong with the image - it's very similar to 99% of mine ... bird is okay, just a bit small in the frame

Despite the short lens and poor angle of the shot, being from underneath the bird, I'm still quite happy that my technique for birding is improving. Logging my bird spottings on ebird and using their Merlin bird ID app and also teaching me thungs, such as that "magpie" is actually a pied currawong, etc.
So learning on multiple fronts with bird photography

It looks good to me, at this size anyway. The longer lens will give more magnification but also magnifies any shake or focus issues. You should get a good boost in your results with the new lens.Comment
