Nothing special but taken with my new Tamron 18-400 which I am having issues with in terms of noise particularly in the red channel. So I deliberately allowed the camera to select the ISO on a dull day (ISO5000) and then ran it through ON1 NoNoise followed by a little sharpening and It didn't turn out too bad. Just trying to get my head round the limitations of the lens as it is until I can get it to a repair shop for testing.

G'day mate
I dunno too much about this - others here will tho - but it seems to me that you're possibly mixing sensor colour deviations with lens issues ??
Isac ... what's your take please

Thanks Phil. Like you I don't claim to know much about that side of things, but have had brief discussions with Isac and his feeling is there may be something wrong with the lens. I don't seem to get the same problem / as bad a problem with other lenses (even my old 55-250 kit lens). Unfortunately don't have any local people who I might be able to approach to get it tested and a bit reluctant to post it.

The image looks OK A&B, probably because of the editing you have done. Take a shot: (RAW 5472 x 3648), MANUAL, Auto ISO, 1/500th and send it to me via WeTransfer to info@isacimages.com. I'll examine the image and see if I can help, no promises.I Shoot A Canon

Thanks Isac. Although it wasn't taken with manual settings the pidgeon is 1/500th and Auto ISO so I will send you that one if that's OK, plus one I took today on your settings. I'm at work at the moment so will do it when I get home. I'm beginning to wonder if I'm just being over critical but will be interesting to hear your thoughts.

I wouldn’t have thought a lens would cause noise, but under-exposure will. Lifting shadows will tend to show noise in those areas even at relatively low ISO, but very dependent on camera. High ISO in low light also.

I checked out both images you sent Kelvin and the pigeon at 5000 ISO had a fair bit of noise (slightly more in the green channel) but to be expected at that level. The village scene at 500 ISO showed very little noise and appeared nice and sharp - even the sign on the wall was clearly readable. ISO is only introduced by the camera and its settings so I doubt the lens is the problem. I only shoot manual so that I have full control but I do have ISO set to Auto, mainly because I know I can remove it using software if it's affecting the image quality. For that, I use Topaz Deniose which is super quick and does a fabulous job. I don't use the semi-auto settings although I do use Shutter Priority for sports action shots or birds in flight with great success. I would say the lens is performing as it should, going on the images you sent me.I Shoot A Canon

I admit that Phil had got me thinking that it was perhaps me not the lens, but I have not noticed the noise previously even in for instance images at ISO6400 taken with the Sigma 150-600 @ F6.3 (same aperture as the pidgeon), or on my really old Canon 55-250 lens, so the first thought was it must be lens related. This time of year is not the best for light in the UK but I will play some more to try to understand the limits of what I can achieve with this Camera / lens combination, which obviously works very well for IsacOriginally posted by Isac View PostI checked out both images you sent Kelvin and the pigeon at 5000 ISO had a fair bit of noise (slightly more in the green channel) but to be expected at that level.
