That's an awesome scene and composition Bill. Yes it isn't as sharp as it should be and hopefully you can return and retry this as I think it would be worth it. I see you shot this at f5 which seems a fairly wide aperture for a scene like this. I would try it at a minimum of f8 and more like f16 to get maximum DOF. I can relate to the eyes. I've often felt like asking the optometrist for double strength glasses just for photography.
