  • A Garden Surprise

A lovely surprise today. We have been listening to a couple of Willie Wagtails, constantly chirping for over a week now and while my wife was watering a few pot plants in our front yard, she looked up into one of our magnolia trees and saw the tiny nest they had been building. Such a work of art. So up the ladder I went and noticed 3 eggs in it. Just had to take a couple of picks. Not the sharpest, but OK for me.

I'll be up the ladder daily to keep an eye out for when the the newbies arrive. The parents do make a bit of noise while guarding the nest. Their night whistling is different from their day sounds.

Good to see Isac, but take care not to disturb them. Many years ago we had a wattle tree near the back door and a pair built a nest right beside our back door. I have a film photo somewhere I think. They didn't seem to bothered by our coming and going.

Cheers Stephen. The parents were out hunting when I looked in so they were not disturbed.

I won't bother them Alan. The 2 parents are always darting about so that's when I peak in.
