A long wait for Colville's Glory

About forty years ago my mother-in-law gave us this tree - Colvillea Racemosa; common name Colville's Glory. She had seen mature specimens in a park in Brisbane but It was apparently quite hard to find plants for sale .It had never flowered and she was very disappointed. She would have been very excited to see it but she passed away some years ago.

I was doing some cleaning up in a corner of the backyard this morning and noticed some orange flowers on the ground. Looking up I saw that the tree had finally flowered. It is possible I had missed it before as the flowers were on the neighbour's side of the tree, but the flowers are hard to miss.

The flower spikes are 30 - 40 cm in length and quite spectacular. Luckily it is quite a small tree and the flowers are only about 2.5m above the ground but still a bit difficult to get a shot.
