    I had to go back and look at your 'snapshot' photos to work this one out ..... did you hit it over the head or is it just shy?

      No, after taking those snapshots with the moth in situ on the post, I picked him up and put it in a paper bag. (Maccas left on the footpath not hard to find). Took it home for a few shots with my bigger camera and macro lens. Not sure the shots are any better than the compact (could be a lesson in there somewhere but can't let Ian hear about that).

      Anyway he got a bit beat up in the bag trying to get out I suppose.

          An unusual feature, that bald spot. Have seen it bright red with a mantle of white, very striking and probably warns of danger to would be predators ...
