  • How to repair a trumpet

Alternative title...How not to repair a trumpet.

The U shaped pipe the orange strap is attached to is the tuning pipe of the trumpet, move it in or out to tune the instrument. It's jammed because the trumpet has not been properly cleaned or serviced for quite a while.

    Plan A.

    Phase1...spray with CRC

Phase2...have a cuppa and wait for the CRC to do its magic

Phase3...tighten the straps till the building they are attached to starts to creak

Phase4...come up with Plan B 'cos Plan A ain't working.

    Plan B

Phase1...small block of wood as dolly and a few gentle taps with a tack hammer

Phase2...not so gentle taps with tack hammer

    Phase3...get a bigger hammer

Phase4...give it an almighty whack...followed by another almighty whack

    Trumpet fixed!

    Time for another cuppa.

Trumpet owner was having kittens watching me beat the livin' bejeezus out of his $2k trumpet.

Sorry there's only one pic but I was in charge of the hammers during the exciting action phases of the operation.

(note to self: get a haircut, get a real job)

Had to crop the top of image to reduce glare

Oh, and yes, trumpet was level before we started getting serious.

Cheers Greg. Shame I didn't have a full series to share. A photo of the trumpets owners face when I came out of the shed with the bigger hammer would have been priceless. "Stand back a bit mate, the head on this is a bit loose" It was cruel of me to say that out loud but everybody except the trumpet owner had a good laugh.

Ha. Ever tried to squeeze a sound out of a trumpet Isac? Wow, is all I can say. Serious respect to folks who can make trumpets sing. Not an instrument for the feint of heart.

Oh, I didn't finish that sentence, sorry. It should read "Had to crop the top of image to reduce glare from my halo"

Trumpet made a weird farting noise when I tested it but the owner was happy.
