  • How dodgy is this?

I saw a bunch of these competition entry forms on the counter of the local fish & chip shop last night. What a great way to get people's contact information, no mention of where the winners name will be published, and no mention of how many "runner up" prizes there are.
People wonder why they get junk phone calls and junk email.

Been around for years. They are simply an exercise in getting gullible peoples details for marketing purposes.
There are no winners as such everybody who completes the form is a "winner" because they will be contacted and told that they have won and then when they go to collect their prize the upsell will start and they will most probably walk out with some ordinary photos and way less money in their bank account.
The second link below is particularly relevant.

    G'day fellas

Yep - these things have been around for years ... and it now extends to major media sites who expect you / us to send "full resolution" images of events and activities to them for their use. The small print to all Aussie newspapers -and- the ABC TV / news people says things like "the image copyright remains with the author, but the author gives us the rights for the perpetual use of this image within any of our publications. We will endeavour to publish the author's name at all times ....." and so it goes on

    Not for me

The same T's and C's apply to any forums owned and operated by Verticalscope (all 1600 or thereabouts of them). It causes much angst particularly on the photo forums they buy from private ownership and immediately change the T's and C's and make them retrospective.
