  • Offroad Buggy Racing

Today, I got to do the photography for the Mickey Thompson ARB Off-Road Racing Championship.
Apart from dealing with the huge dust problems, everything else was great in the conditions.

Just love the action shots so much.
Great job on the complete set of shot you have done so well to me.
I post what I photograph and what I post is how I like it.

Thanks, dust was a massive issue, luckily in editing I was able to reduce it

      Hi Joey

A huge -wow- factor here mate - and you seem to have cracked a good set of keepers here
      Well done

Thanks Phil. The event manager from the AORRA has messaged me to request the photos of the top place holders for the different classes for a news article, so my handy work will be seen there

Thanks, I'm stoked they turned out so clear and everything only require a little adjustment of the ure/brightness/touch of vibrancy and a ton of sharpness to clear the dust, so minimal editing to clean up the cream of the 1k+ photos that I took for the day

Hi - missed you still have a camera?

Great action shots there Joe. I suspect some competitors would be very interested in buying some action shots of their vehicles.

My son does that for Dressage events and makes good pocket money. You would need to organise it with the club ahead of time and there is the issue of insurance and such.

Yeah I had to register with the AORRA before hand as an authorised media to be able to shoot there.
The organiser guy shared the local photography Facebook page that I posted all of the touched up pictures I did last night today, and my Facebook notifications are blowing up with all the team members liking all the photos. I recognise some of the names from the stickers on the buggies.
The guy I the shoot with has a couple of photo printers, so it's certainly something we can offer to sell the teams their pick of the picts for a small fee to cover printing and postage.

My son just sells the digital files and seems to sell quite a few.. Just depends whether you are doing it for fun or a little extra cash.

Ok cool. Future events, I want to take the time to walk the pits and do crew photos, and have a chat to offer that type of thing

Playing around in Luminar Neo yesterday, and I was able to re-edit some of the photos from this event and cut away a lot of the dust and make the buggies "pop" more.
The third image I ended up printing off a copy and framing it on my office wall with a few of my other top photos.

Wonderful action shots Joe. Next time out there, try panning and using a slower shutter speed to get that motion blur effect. It will really keep the cars sharp, create that blur in the background and show wheel spin, all of which showcases speed and movement. Try anywhere between 1/250th down to 1/80th.

Agree with Isac. I also think the viewpoint is important. The camping ground background detracts from the mood you are setting. You will finish up with some great shots.

            Good news, everybody.
One of my photos from this event last year made it to the official race day page for this year's races.
I have also just finished registering for my media accreditation for this year's race, so looking forward to an exciting event.

Congrats Joe, very exciting for you. We hope to see lots of action shots. Don't forget to slow that shutter down and do some panning.

I plan a few things for this event, as I'll be doing the full 2 days of it and plan to get some "pit crew" photos walking around the crew areas, as well as trying some different capture techniques of the action.
